Pasture Walk July 23^rd in Bath County

VFGC is planning an evening pasture walk at The Moyers Family Twilight Farms near Hot Springs, VA in beautiful Bath County. Kevin Moyers and his family will showcase the improvements made to their farm and grazing system with an emphasis on his conversion of wild-type, toxic endophyte fescue to the advanced technology of a novel endophyte fescue.  Featured speakers will include Shawna Bratton, Beef Specialist with Augusta Co-op, Alston Horn with Chesapeake Bay Foundation and JB Daniel the USDA-NRCS Grassland Agronomist.  Topics will include an overview of the forage and livestock system, the conversion process to novel endophyte fescue, using summer annuals to prepare for the fescue conversion, an electric fence component and use demonstration and a conservation update from the local offices. The event will be on July 23, 2020, beginning at 4:30 with a light dinner and will try to end at 7:30 pm.  Register today at vaforages.org for $10 per person.  Registration deadline is July 17^th so we can prepare for your meal.  Or you can download the registration sheet VFGC Pasture Walk Bath July 23 and mail it in with your check to register. Space is currently limited to the first 50 to register based on the Governor’s Phase II restrictions related to Covid-19.  Bring a lawn chair or be prepared to eat the simple dinner on the tailgate or hood of your vehicle to practice social distancing at this event. Based on the Covid-19 virus situation, you may not be ready to attend this event.  Each attendee will be required to answer a few basic questions and sign a liability waiver as they arrive on-site.  We ask that if you are sick, have even a slight fever, or minor cold symptoms or have been in contact with a person known to have had Covid-19 within the last 14 days, then please do not attend this event.  If you have an underlying health condition that makes you an “at risk” person for contracting the Covid -19 virus, then you should consider staying home.  For anyone who plans to attend, we ask that you be cautious, responsible and respectful and use social distancing practices and be prepared to walk to the different fields since we will NOT be loaded together on wagons.  Unless the Governors’ restrictions are removed then we cannot even transport people who have trouble walking, so it may be too soon for you to attend in person.  Thank you for your understanding and patience as we try to host this event while keeping your safety in mind.
