2022 Winter Forage Conference. The Green Side of Beef: In Defense of Grassland Agriculture
January 18, 2022 @ 8:00 am - January 22, 2022 @ 3:00 pm
The VFGC Winter Forage Conference is still scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday Jan. 19, 2022) at the Olde Dominion Ag Complex, 19783 US Highway. 29 South, Chatham, VA 24531.
This year’s winter forage conference series will explore and challenge the common claim that beef is bad for the planet. From issues like water quality to climate change, our speakers will show how well-managed grasslands can produce healthy meat and be part of the solution to the environmental issues we face.
Nicolette Hahn Niman is a former vegetarian turned rancher. Once an environmental attorney for Waterkeeper Alliance and the National Wildlife Federation, now she writes and travels widely, making the case that beef can be nutritious and sustainable. Her new book, Defending Beef has just been released.
Alan Franzluebbers is a USDA professor of soil ecology with NC State University. Alan will present surprising new research with implications for managing nitrogen on stockpiled fescue.
He will also challenge you to develop pasture management practices that improve the water quality and soil resources on your farm.
Plus, hear presentations from local beef producers.
